It is not legal advice, not electrical advice and not construction advice, and it is not a substitute for a locksmith, an electrician, a glazier, your local fire department or your building official — none of whom this site can replace, because none of the work here has seen your door.
Safety
Several pages describe work involving drilling, hand tools and, in one case, existing doorbell wiring. Isolate power before touching any wiring and stop if you cannot identify the circuit with confidence. Drilling into a fire-rated door or frame can void the rating that assembly was certified with. Where a page says to stop and call somebody, that is the instruction, not a suggestion.
Escape
Devices that restrict an opening from the inside can prevent escape and can prevent emergency services from reaching somebody. Read the Escape Routes and Fire Safety page before fitting any of them, and treat the requirements of your own jurisdiction as the authority.
