DoorWatchBeacon is written from a locksmith’s side of the counter: the side where somebody arrives having bought a lock that does not fit a door whose actual weak point was a screw too short to reach the framing. It is organized around openings rather than products because that is how the problem presents itself in real houses.
What this site does
It covers 7 entry points, 12 individual jobs and 39 hardware listings, and every page walks the same four layers in the same order: Deter, Detect, Delay, Document. That structure is the whole point. It makes it obvious that a camera does not slow anybody down, that a wedge is not a security device, and that most of what changes an outcome at a door costs nothing.
What it will not do
- It does not describe how to open, bypass or disable any lock, camera, alarm or doorbell. Not as a technique, not as a way to test your own, not in passing. Weaknesses are named as reasons to add a layer and nothing more.
- It does not claim that any product prevents a break-in or makes a home safe. Products buy time, produce a record, or change an appearance.
- It does not print an ANSI/BHMA grade next to a lock whose manufacturer has not published one, and it reports load figures such as pounds of force as listing claims rather than as facts.
- It does not give legal advice, and it does not summarize any state’s rules. Recording, privacy, lease terms and association rules all depend on where you are, and the site says so rather than guessing.
- It quotes no prices, no ratings and no subscription rates. Those change and the site would go stale describing them.
The rule above the rest
Every device that restricts an opening from the inside is described here alongside a warning, and every one of those pages links to the escape reference. That is not caution for its own sake. A door nobody outside can open is a door a paramedic cannot open either, and a bedroom window that needs a key is not an escape route.
How it pays for itself
Through affiliate links to Amazon, disclosed at the top and bottom of every page that carries them. Nothing is ordered by commission, and the free measures come first on every entry page precisely because they are the ones that pay nothing to anybody.
